As I begin the endeavor of discovering the parts of me that I’ve hidden from myself, I find myself striving for progress and results. I try to set up foolproof goals and habits that will lead me to the destination that I want. However, doing this assumes something of me. It assumes that the process will take a certain amount of time and it doesn’t account for any hurdles that I might encounter. It paints an image of myself that is ‘optimal’ and counterproductively hides the ‘undesirable’ parts of me that I want to uncover.
To discover truth and make progress, we might need to forget about results and place more emphasis on moment to moment awareness. I’m learning that it is not helpful to make assumptions about myself because they can be seen as aggressions that cause the more flighty and sensitive parts of my unconscious to hide away. The same things happen when we direct our assumptions towards others.
Yesterday I talked about how being aware but not judging is perhaps the truest form of love. I think I understand what people mean by practicing loving awareness now. It is exactly that state of mind where we are aware of everything going on, but do not judge or make assumptions. We just let everything manifest as it is without any dualistic perspective. If we remove our judgements, then we are just awareness. Being just awareness is love because we free ourselves to be who we’re meant to be. When we learn to do that for ourselves, we can also do that for others. We give them the space and awareness to liberate their true beings. Is that not the highest form of love?
I notice how my feelings towards others change as I am able to be aware of and accept all of me. Love grows inside me and spreads outward.
If we focus on process, results will naturally come. Everything happens naturally under loving awareness.
After all the long, violent battles within ourselves, the final resting place is loving awareness. It is where we our tired souls eventually hang their coats. Then we realize that we are only loving awareness. The universe is loving awareness. The great lesson was removing ourselves from fighting ourselves so that we can be free in our truest forms.
God, help me and help all people remove the impediments we place before ourselves. Remove the walls and fortresses we put up that prevent ourselves from seeing and accepting our true, free selves. Let us live in loving awareness of ourselves and others. Let us discover our natural tempo in life. Let us become the love that we are all meant to be. And let us rest in that love.
