Grudges with the Universe

In this blog I write about my progress in my spiritual, psychological, and philosophical journey. I want to talk about having gripes with the universe today. I suffer greatly sometimes because of my judgement. I judge people harshly for their insensitivity, hedonism, ignorance, and meanness. I condemn the universe for plotting against me. When I judge, I instantly enter into conflict within myself. My dialogue is “This isn’t right”, “I won’t accept this”, “This isn’t fair”. I love to hold grudges against the universe. It’s an easy fix to pin the blame on someone or something else for frustrating my desires and expectations.

I should really thank the universe for rubbing me the wrong way though. Yea, I might be holding grudges, but with each grudge, I begin to see the pointlessness of resenting and hating. The only person that gets hurt is me. I’m the one that can’t sleep, can’t move on, or can’t live in the present. All because of some idea I’m attached to about how things should be.

I’d like to end with a short prayer.. Thank you god for all the adversity in my life. Keep challenging my ideas of self and my sense of righteousness. Keep humbling me so that I see the true nature of the universe.

I remind myself that we are neither saints nor perfect beings. We’re all on our own journey, going at our own pace. Remember to focus on your process, not where other people are.
